SUMMARY:Art of the African Diaspora Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the 100th Year Commemoration of Black History Month with San Jose Public Library!  \nExplore the 2026 Art of the African Diaspora Exhibit in the DiNapoli Gallery\, located on the second floor of the King Library from Sunday\, January 11 – Sunday\, February 22\, 2026. \n \nAn Artist Reception complete with a meet and greet\, panel interview and light refreshments will be held on Sunday\, February 22\, 2026 from 2 – 3:30 pm in Room 225 (Second Floor.) \n \n\n \n \nAbout the Art of the African Diaspora (AOTD) \nArt of the African Diaspora (AOTD) is the longest running event of its kind in the Bay Area. It originated from a salon for African American artists known as Colors of Black that was organized in 1989 by artist and professor Marie Johnson Calloway. Over the next twenty-five years the exhibition ensured the increased visibility for African American artists in the Bay Area. In 2019\, the organization became aware of the necessity to incorporate a broader vision of the African Diaspora and consequently renamed the organization Art of the African Diaspora. AOTD\, in partnership with Richmond Art Center\, supports artists of African descent in the Bay Area through representation\, professional development\, and building a creative community. \nTo spread its message\, influence\, and to increase visibility of African American artists in the Bay Area\, AOTD has created satellite exhibits in various locations throughout the Bay. AOTD does open calls for artists and creates exhibits to be displayed in time to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr and to honor Black History Month. San Jose Public Library has been a satellite for AOTD since 2023\, debuting in the Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. Library in 2023 and traveling to the Dr. Roberto Cruz Alum Rock Library in 2024 and returning to the Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr Library in 2025. \n \nFree Program. No Registration Required. All Ages Welcome \nADA Accommodation Requests
