SUMMARY:Discover Ilocano Traditional Weaving
DESCRIPTION:This program introduces the socio-cultural and historical significance of Ilocano traditional weaving within the Filipino American community. The practice is rooted in the migration of Ilocanos to the U.S. in the early 1900s\, following American colonization of the Philippines. As the second-largest Filipino ethnolinguistic group in the U.S.\, Ilocanos carry a rich weaving heritage. Participants will explore iconic design patterns\, their symbolism\, and try weaving on small looms. \nThis program is first come\, first served until capacity is reached at 25 attendees.  \nFor accessibility accommodations (ex. ASL)\, please fill out the online form at sccld.org/accessibility 7+days prior to the event. If you need assistance with the form\, speak with a staff member at your local library\, call (408) 540-3945\, or email us at ask@lib.sccgov.org.

SUMMARY:The Essential Guide to Mushroom Foraging
DESCRIPTION:Delve into the captivating world of mycology and learn the essential skills of mushroom identification. This program provides a comprehensive introduction to recognizing edible varieties like chanterelles\, morels\, and porcini\, while emphasizing the critical importance of distinguishing them from poisonous species. Through interactive learning\, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the ecological role of fungi and develop a foundation for safe and responsible exploration of the natural world. \nCarrie Staller is a passionate wild food educator and the founder of Fork in the Path. She has guided thousands of people towards a deeper connection with nature and wild seasonal food. \nFork In The Path offers guided wild mushroom\, seaweed\, mussel\, plant\, & acorn foraging experiences in California for the adventurous of all ages. Carrie grew up with typical American mycophobia – as in – “don’t touch that\, it might kill you!” Now she is passionate about creating a relationship between people and wild seasonal food\, something she sees as a birthright and a fundamental part of being human. Learning to forage and cook with wild food can be intimidating\, but Carrie loves to collaborate with experts and make forest-to-table experiences accessible and fun.
