DESCRIPTION:Need help with your homework? Kindergarten through 8th grade students can come to Edenvale Branch Library’s Homework Club to get coached by trained library volunteers. Students can get free help with their homework in subjects such as reading\, writing\, math\, and social studies!​ \nHomework Club at Edenvale Branch Library is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays each week from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM\, except for the following dates because of City holidays and school breaks: \n\nOctober 7th and 9th\n\nHomework Club will take a break for the winter right after the Thanksgiving Break and resume in January 2026. The schedule for the Spring semester will be determined and posted closer to the start of December. \nFree. No registration is required; however\, Homework Club has a limited capacity. Services will be provided on a first-come\, first-served basis. As a result\, students might not be coached one-on-one for the whole duration of the program depending on volunteer availability. If we do not have enough tutors\, students will be redirected to Tutor.com\, a library resource. \nADA Accommodation Requests

SUMMARY:VIRTUAL Math Olympiad Club
DESCRIPTION:Prepare for the prestigious Math Olympiad competition or get better at mathematics! Children ages 8-11 will learn how to solve difficult math problems as preparation for math competitions in middle school. Through guided instruction and practice using real competition math problems\, participants will learn how to break down problems and solve them step-by-step. Hosted by West Valley Branch Library. \nThis program meets online each Tuesday from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM during the school year except for holiday breaks or if volunteers are not available. The current registration is for all sessions from Sept-Dec. 2025. Participants should try to register if they are sure they will be able to attend. (If you register and fail to attend\, you may prevent someone else from attending the program). DESCRIPTION:Drop in on Tuesdays after school for a new STEAM adventure every week. \nOct. 28 – Electrical Conductivity (Science from Scientists)In this introduction to electrical conductors and insulators\, participants are challenged to build a simple circuit\, test and classify various materials as conductors or insulators\, and add a switch to the circuit. Participants will then usethe evidence gathered in their exploration to explain why wires are made of a copper core encased in a plastic coating.  \nChildren younger than age 9 must be accompanied by a parent for the program. \nNov. 4 – Coding with Scratch: Clicker GameCode an interactive clicker game using block-based coding in Scratch! While following step-by-step instructions\, kids will learn the logic behind their code and explore key coding concepts such as loops and variables. \nScratch is a visual programming language that allows students to create their own interactive stories\, games\, and animations. As students design Scratch projects\, they learn to think creatively\, reason systematically\, and work collaboratively. Students will create a catcher game using colorful blocks of instructions. \nThis class is ideal for children in 2nd grade and above. Limited to 20 students. Parents should provide a laptop for their child if possible\, and should create a scratch account prior to the program start. \nNov. 18 – What’s Cooking? The Chemistry of Food! Be ready to get messy with hands-on experiments and learn the chemistry of food!
