Master Gardeners Talk: Three Sister Gardening

Join us for a Master Gardeners Talk program on the topics of Three Sisters Gardening which is the traditional Native American method of planting corn, beans, and squash (hence the name, “Three Sisters”) together. 

Companion Planting: The Three Sisters Method

The gardening technique of the “Three Sisters” where corn, beans, and squash are planted together in a mutually beneficial arrangement. Enjoy an afternoon discussing the 3 Sisters planting method with UC Master Gardener Aparna Bugwadia. We will discuss the history of the 3 Sisters planting, and how it is a sustainable and efficient way to grow vegetables. We will also discuss plant placement, and choosing the variety of squash, beans, and corn that provide optimal results. Finally, we will discuss the fourth sister and end the session with a discussion on post-harvest soil maintenance.

Location: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, E. San Fernando St., San Jose, CA 95112.

This is a FREE in-person program. Attendants can park for 90 minutes free at the Fourth Street Garage across from E. San Fernando St.
