Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with an illuminating talk exploring the deep history and living legacy of Bay Area Indigenous peoples. Professor, anthropologist, and author Gustavo Flores will highlight recent archaeological discoveries that shed new light on the region’s earliest cultures.
Gustavo Flores received his M.A. in Applied Anthropology from San José State University in 2014. In addition to teaching anthropology courses at SJSU, he also teaches at Evergreen Valley College. He collaborates with the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe, Santa Clara University, Foothill College, and researchers from Stanford University to conduct archaeological research using primary sources to better understand the histories and experiences of Indigenous peoples in the Bay Area. He is also the coauthor of the forthcoming book We Will Receive Justice: Native Histories of the Collapse of the California Missions, scheduled for publication next year.
