Speech & Debate

Join us for a series focused on speaking and debate skills for students in grades 4-8.
Here is a schedule of the classes:
- 9/8: Introduce Pranya, go over basics of Speech & Debate, learn to slate
- 9/15: Debate structures, parts of an argument, hand gestures, choose resolution
- 9/22: Speech structure, magic #3, pauses, discuss resolution
- 9/29: Greek rhetorical devices, practice speeches, aff/neg discussion, start evidence research on iPads
- 10/6: Cross-examinations, speech clarity exercise, tongue twisters, continue evidence research
- 10/13: Break, Indigenous Peoples’ Day
- 10/20: Blocks/counterarguments, rebuttal, tone/inflection game, writing/research time
- 10/27: Taking debate notes, formatting evidence, finish drafting

- 11/17: Debates + fun debates to wrap up class
Classes will not meet on 10/13.
Classes will meet in the Tech Center on 10/27 & 11/3.
